May 18, 2009: L & M Companies Recalls Cantaloupe Due To Potential Salmonella Contamination

canteloupe_mediumL & M Companies, Raleigh, NC, have recalled some of their cantaloupes because, because the product may be contaminated with the foodborne pathogen Salmonella. 

The cantaloupe recall covers whole cantaloupes sold between May 10-15, 2009, in Wal-Mart Stores in North Carolina and South Carolina, and in a Wal-Mart located at 315 Furr Street, South Hill, Virginia. Consumers should not eat the recalled cantaloupes.

The cantaloupe recall was initiated after product tested positive for Salmonella.
 

Salmonella outbreaks have been linked to cantaloupes in the past. The most recent outbreak occured early last year when the CDC confirmed that 51 cases of Salmonella food poisoning were linked to cantaloupes imported from Honduras.
