June 14, 2010: McDonald's Recalls Shrek Glasses
On June 4,
the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with McDonald’s and
ARC International, announced a voluntary recall of approximately 12 million
"Shrek Forever After 3D" Collectable Drinking Glasses because of the
potential of cadmium exposure. CPSC asks that consumers should stop using
recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed, explaining that it
is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.
The
"Shrek Forever After 3D" collectable drinking glass are 16 ounce
glasses that came in four designs, Shrek, Fiona, Puss n' Boots, and Donkey. These cups were sold exclusively at
McDonald's restaurants nationwide from May 2010 into June 2010 for about $2.
There have
been no reported injuries but McDonald's is asking consumers to immediately
stop using the glasses as a precaution because long term exposure to cadmium
has been shown to cause adverse health effects.
